Q

How do the following parameters differ for a viral vs. a bacterial pneumonia:
• CXR
• Infiltrate
• WBC

A

CXR will show NO consolidation with viral infections, while consolidation may or may not be present in bacterial infection

Infiltrates will be mostly lymphocytic in viral infection, while in bacterial pneumonia PMNs are more prominent

WBC becomes much more elevated in bacterial than viral infection
