Adaptive Immune System Flashcards
Understand antigen presentation as one of the main links between the innate and the adaptive immune responses
=> antigen presentation: done most commonly by dendritic cells (DC), breakdown into peptide
- presentation of peptide to CD4+ with MHC (anchor proteins and presentation into TCR binding site) = activation of T-cell
Define the characteristics of lymphocytes
Understand why we have lymphocyte
- pathogen recognition
- developing adaptive response
- production of antibodies
- coordinating response and maintaining memory
- avoiding destruction of self
Describe the features of the T cell receptor and the B cell receptor
Understand the concept of lymphocyte repertoire selection
Understand how immunological memory is generated and maintained
SECONDARY RESPONSES:
- faster, greater magnitude
- memory cells accumulation > naive t-cells
- memory cells react more vigorously when challenging repeat antigen exposure.
Define epitope or determinant
the recognisable parts of complex antigens detected by lymphocytes
