Polar bears have lots of fur for insulation
Thick skin for insulation
White fur for camouflage
What do dogs have to ensure survival in a particular habitat

Sharp teeth to eat food
Good sense of smell to hunt for food
And good hearing to know when a prey is getting close
Why does the lynx population go down when there is less snow hare ?
Because the lynx don’t have anything to eat
Why does the snows hoes population increase when there is less lynx
Because the snow hoes are not being eaten
What is a variation
Variations are small differences in the characteristics of individuals from the same species
What is a spices ?
A species is a group of of organisms that share many of the same characteristics
What is an inherited variation ?
An inherited variation is caused by genes and are passed on from parents for example eye colour
What is an environmental variation
It is an species that is caused by the environment for example a scar
Give me an example of a variation that is both environmental and inherited
Weight is inherited by your parents but also environmental as your diet can also effect your weight
What is continuous variation
Continuous variation refers to the characteristics that can take any value within a certain range e.g height , body’s mass and arm span
What is discontinuous variation
Discontinuous variation refers to characteristics that can only take certain values e.g blood groups , eye colour and shoe size
In continuous variation within populations usually shows a bell shaped curve what is this normally called ?
Normal distribution
