Adaptations of Plants Flashcards
1
Q
Plants living on land must be adapted to replace the lost water and reduce the loss in the first place:
A
- Waxy cuticle – reduces water loss due to evaporation through the epidermis.
- Stomata are found on lower epidermis – reduces evaporation due to direct heating from sun.
- Stomata close at night – no photosynthesis, so no need for gaseous exchange.
- Deciduous plants loose leaves in the winter – when ground is frozen (less water available) & temperatures are too cold for photosynthesis.
