• Waxy cuticle – reduces water loss due to evaporation through the epidermis.
• Stomata are found on lower epidermis – reduces evaporation due to direct heating from sun.
• Stomata close at night – no photosynthesis, so no need for gaseous exchange.
• Deciduous plants loose leaves in the winter – when ground is frozen (less water available) & temperatures are too cold for photosynthesis.
