Adaptations Flashcards
Adaptations
An adaptation is defined as a physical or behavioral feature of an animal that helps them better survive in their environment.
There are three types of adaptations, structural, functional/physiological, and behavioural.
Behavioural, Physiological/Functional, Structural
Behavioural. - responses made by an organism that help it to survive/reproduce.
Physiological - a body process that helps an organism to survive/reproduce.
Structural. - a feature of an organism’s body that helps it to survive/reproduce.
Types of behavioural adaptations
migration, hibernation, learned behavior, alteration in the mode of reproduction, altered feeding habits, and distinct modes of communication.
Types of physiological/functional adaptations
Physiological adaptation is an internal body process to regulate and maintain homeostasis for an organism to survive in the environment in which it exists, examples include temperature regulation, release of toxins or poisons, releasing antifreeze proteins to avoid freezing in cold environments
Types of structural adaptations
Camouflage
Thick Fur
Mimicry
Gills
Claws
