Adaptation, Acclimation and Acclimatisation Flashcards
Name 5 factors that affect Adaptation, Acclimation and Acclimatisation.
Temperature, CO2, Water (drought/ waterlogging), Salinity, Predation.
Define adaptation.
Adaptations are anatomical structures, physiological processes or biological traits that have evolved over a period of time through natural selection. They increase the likelihoods of reproductive success.
Define acclimation with an example.
Behavioural or physiological changes induced by an artificial environment, such as hardening off plants to avoid transplant stress.
Define acclimatisation.
Acclimatization describes physiological or behavioural changes within an organism in response to their natural climate or environment. These changes happen gradually over time for optimum growing/ reproduction.
