Describe what happened during the XYZ Affair.
This was when American diplomats were sent to negotiate a peace with France. They were supposed to meet with the French Foreign Minister, but instead were met by three agents. These agents demanded a $25,000 bribe and a $10 million loan to France.

Describe what the Sedition Act did.
This was an act that stated the President was allowed to jail anyone who spoke out against the government in a malicious or false way.
Describe what the Alien Enemies Act did.
This allowed the President to jail or deport any immigrants from a country at war with or declared enemy of the U.S.
Describe what the Alien Friends Act did.
This allowed the President to jail or deport any immigrants that were considered a threat or accused of plotting against the government.
Describe what the Naturalization Act did.
This changed the amount of years it took for an immigrant to become a naturalized U.S. citizen from 5 years to 14 years.

The Democratic-Republicans opposed these acts. The Virginia and Kentucky Resolutions were made to oppose these acts and stated that these acts violated the Constitution and should not be followed.
