Q

“we got him to eat leaves - we got him to nick some vodka – made him run across the motorway “

A

The group collectively bullied and pressured into committing these foolish and dangerous acts. The escalation of the verbs from’got’ to ‘made’ Creates an impression of inescapability as though he had no choice and was doomed from the start. Kelly is showing us the affect gang culture can have a weak and fragile individual similar. Brian Kelly shows that inhumane treatment of Adam as a way of shocking the audience and encouraging them to take responsibility for these young people in their own society to ensure, this does not happen

Q

“Adam, it’s Adam, my name is Adam”
“ a new, a new, a new me, and I felt… Happy/“Brian? Take Adam back to his hedge. “

A

Kelly interestingly, has Adam regained his confidence and identity by the end of the play. he is not sure of himself and assertive as we see him embracing his independence, although achieved through tragic means Kelly is showing us how being away from the gang and the gang culture Adam has been empowered to stop trying to fit in and please them. Adam has perhaps had a symbolic rebirth . although this could simultaneous show Adams PTSD and trauma from what he had lived through and is again Kelly showing us how teenagers are in desperate need of societal intervention.
