Safety Plate
One thickness of heat treated glass. This glass shatters into very small pieces when broken. Used in back and side glass.
Tempered Glass
One thickness of sheet glass and one thickness of double sheet glass with the plastic laminate between the two thicknesses. This type of glass may be found in some older automobiles, RVs, trucks and busses.
Safety Sheet
Glass that has an even colored tint throughout the glass.
Tinted Glass
Glass that has a heavier tint along its top edge, which gradually decreased in density near the normal line of vision.
Shaded Glass
This method of forming parts is done by pouring liquid metal into a mold.
Casting
Process similar to blacksmiths making horseshoes. Ingots or blocks of metal are heated and then shaped with special power hammers. The hammering aligns the molecules of the metal to give it greater strength.
Forging
Sheet metal is prepared by taking a hot slab of metal from a furnace and rolled to get a desired thickness. Then the metal is stamped by power presses.
Stamping
Parts that act as supports for the front and/or rear face bar or fascia.
Bumper Supports
Another name for a bumper cover that is usually found on unibody vehicles.
Fascia
An appearance part located on the front end of the vehicle that helps channel air to the radiator and protects some parts from road debris.
Grille
This part forms the housing for the front suspension on a unitized vehicle and is critical for the handling and safety of the vehicle.
Fender Apron
This non-structural part attaches to the fender apron/wheelhouse and keeps water and debris from being splashed into the engine compartment.
Fender Liner / Fender Skirt / Inner Shield / Splash Shield
A metal or plastic part surrounding another part. It is often found around lamps or accessories. When it is around a headlamp, it is sometimes called a headlamp door.
