Acute Inflammation Flashcards
1
Q
What are some of causes of acute inflammation with examples?
A
- physical agents e.g heat cold, radiation
- irritants/corrosive - acids or alkaloids
- microbial infections - pyogenic bacteria
- immune-mediated hypersensitvity e.g. allergic rhinitis
- tissue necrosis (ischaemia from myocardial infarction)
2
Q
What are the 5 classical signs of acute inflammation?
A
- redness
- heat
- swelling
- pain
- loss of function
3
Q
Why do the classic signs appear?
A
They are trying to prevent further tissue damage and bring cells of the immune system to the site of injury
4
Q
What is the response rate, onset, type of immunity
predominant cell, duration and vascular response of acute inflammation?
A
Response - Immediate reaction Onset - rapid Immunity - Innate Predominant cell - Neutrophil Duration -hours to weeks Vascular response - prominent
