Calor - heat
dolor - pain
rubor - redness
tumor - swelling
loss of function can also be considered.

How does acute inflammation start?
A
Sensation: Cells in the body sense damage or invasion. The cells include Langerhans/dendritic cells, mast cells, and macrophages.

What types of receptors are involved in acute inflammation?
A
- TLRs - sense cytokines/extracellular DAMPs or PAMPs
- NLRs - sense intracellular DAMPs or PAMPs
- Fc receptors - responsible for Ab mediated effects.
