Acute Inflammation Flashcards
What are the five cardinal symptoms of inflammation?
- Rubor
- Calor
- Tumor
- Dolor
- Functio laesa
What are two prerequisites for a tissue to become inflamed.
Must be living and vascularized
Which cells make and store histamine?
Mast cells
What does histamine do?
Venodilation and increased vascular permeability, endothelial activation
What two things can bind to mast cell to provoke degranulation?
IgE crosslinking and C3a or C5a binding.
What cells make and store serotonin?
Platelets
What does serotonin do?
Venodilation and increased vascular permeability, endothelial activation
Which cells make Nitric Oxide?
Endothelial cells and infiltrating lymphocytes in inflamed tissues.
What does nitric oxide do?
Smooth muscle relaxation
What does bradykinin do?
Vasodilation and pain
What drugs inhibit COX1?
Non-specific NSAIDs
What drugs inhibit COX2?
Specific and non-specific NSAIDs
What drug class inhibits PLA2?
Corticosteroids
Which cyclooxygenase is inducible?
COX2
What cells make platelet activating factor and what does it do?
Neutrophils, basophils, monocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, platelets. Does pretty much the same thing as histamine.
