How is anaphylaxis managed acutely?

A

A-E & call for help
Remove trigger
Sit upright to support breathing, high flow O2
IM adrenaline - 500micrograms, in anterolateral aspect of middle thigh
If no improvement, repeat adrenaline in 5 minutes & give fluid bolus

What dose of adrenaline is given for anaphylaxis vs cardiac arrest?

A

Anaphylaxis
- 500 micrograms of 1:1000 adrenaline
- This means 0.5mL of 1mg/ml (1000mcg/ml) adrenaline

Cardiac arrest
- 1g adrenaline - 10ml of 1:10,000 adrenaline
