Acute Arterial Ischemic Disorders Flashcards
what is an acute arterial ischemic disorder?
sudden interruption in arterial blood supply to a tissue organ, or extremity
what if you leave acute arterial ischemic disorder untreated?
can result in tissue death
what are some causes of acute arterial ischemic disorders?
embolism
thrombosis
trauma
what are the 6ps for clinical manifestations for patients with acute arterial ischemic disorders ?
pain
pallor
pulselessness
paresthesia
paralysis ( late sign )
poikilothermia
what is the treatment for patients with acute arterial ischemic disorders?
IV heparin
- remember these are patients who have a blockage and interruption
- surgical thrombectomy
- percutaneous catheter - directed thrombolytic therapy
- perfcutaneous mechanical thrombectomy
- surgical bypass
- amputation
one question on test
about buergers disease
(thromboangiitis obliterans )
this is all we need to know about it
what is buergers disease ?
(thromboangiitis obliterans)
what is the treatment ?
arterial occlusion that happens to men because they smoke
( tobacco or marijuana )
causes decreases arterial perfusion
treatment by stop smoking !! and it will go away
what is raynauds phenomenon?
vasoconstriction in the hands/feet !
(an episodic vasospastic disorders of small cutaneous arteries, most often involving the fingers and toes)
what is the main trigger in patients to end up developing raynuads phenomenon ?
this is why we normally recommend patients to do what ?
exposure to cold
wear gloves out and or have something warm to protect their hands
what is the main characteristic or clinical manifestations of raynauds phenomenon?
red, white and blue
( change of color in their hands due to the vasoconstriction of being cold )
what is the first line drug therapy or treatment for patients with raynauds phenomenon ?
calcium channel blockers and vasodilators
- keep the vessels open to improve the blood flow
