What was Wolsey accused of?
Putting his allegiances to the Pope before his allegiances to Henry
What does an Act of Attainder do?
All the property of the accused reverts to the crown
Why did Wolsey have an attainder brought against him?
He failed to get Henry the divorce
Why did the MPs support an Act of Attaunder against Wolsey?
Because they viewed him as an upstart who undermined their position because of his low birth
Why was the seizing of Wolseys property through the Act significant?
He was cardinal so all his land was church property,meaning he could never get them back
When was the Act of the Submission of the Clergy passed ?

What was the purpose of the Submission Act?
To put pressure on the Pope to grant an annulment
What did the Act for submission do?
Charged 15 Churchmen with praemunire
Made the Clergy agree to his title as ‘Supreme head of the Church in England’
What was a consequence of the Act of submission ?
It opened the door to further criticism of the Church and anti-clerical feeling
When was the Act of the supplication of the Ordinaries passed?

Why did Henry pass the Supplication ?
Because MPs petitioned for Henry to take action against abuses of power by churchmen
What did the supplication of the ordinaries do?
1) Convocation lost its legal independence and was made to surrender the right to pass Canon law
2) Existing Canon law was to be scrutinised by a committee of 16 laymen and 16 clergy and only those approved would remain in force

Removed chief source of revenue that Rome received from England
