Activities 1.1, 1.2, & 1.3 Flashcards
Help study vocab words for test over Activities 1.1, 1.2, & 1.3 in the Unit Magic of Electrons.
Atoms
The smallest unit of a chemical element that is made up of a nucleus surrounded by electrons.
Atomic Number
Is equal to the number of protons (positively charged particles) in the Nucleus of an atom and electrons (negatively charged particles).
Protons
Atomic particles with a positive charge, are located in the nucleus of atoms.
Neutrons
Protons with no charge that are found in the Nucleus of atoms.
Electrons
Negatively charged particles around the Nucleus in atoms.
Valence Electrons
The outermost ring of electrons in an atom. Determines whether an element is an insulator, conductor, or semiconductor.
Conductors
Devices or materials that permit current to flow through it easily.
Semiconductors
A material that is both a poor conductor and a poor insulator.
Insulators
A material used to electrically isolate two conductive surfaces.
Elements
The simplest form of matter. A pure substance composed of only one type of atom.
Multimeter
An instrument for measuring the properties of an electrical circuit.
Static Electricity
An accumulation of electric charge on an insulated body.
Current
A flow of electrical charge.
Voltage (V)
The force behind the movement of electrons.
Anode
The positively charged structure within a voltaic cell.
