Active Transport and cell transport Flashcards
How is a turgor cells good for plants
A turgor cell is good for plants because a lot of water is contained inside the turgor cell which is protected from bursting by the cell wall this makes the plant look healthy
Why is a flaccid cell bad for plant
Because of the loss of water the cell wall loses its structure and the plant looks unhealthy
What is the End point for diffusion/osmosis
When the concentration of particles reaches equilibrium
What is the definition of active transport
When substances continue to move in and out of the cell
What do Carrier proteins do to particles during active transport
They move particles against a concentration gradient
Where do the carrier proteins get their energy from during active transport
They get their energy when respiration happens in the cells
Name a use of active transport in plants
When the concentration of minerals in soil is lower than inside the plant active transport is used to absorb to minerals against the concentration gradient
What’s the definition of equilibrium
Something that has become the same as something else or a state of balance of substances between membranes
What two types of substances move into and out of cells across the cell membrane
Dissolve substances and gases
What will some gases have to do to move across cell membranes
Gases such as oxygen have to dissolve in mucus
