Active Transport Flashcards
What happens during active transport?
Salts or ions are pumped from an area of LOW concentration to an area of HIGHER concentration
Does this process require energy released by the cell?
Yes
What are 2 examples where active transport would be used?
~ Nitrate ions must be actively transported to the inside of plant cells
~ Glucose is actively transported from the small intestine into the blood
What 5 factors affect active transport?
Note: Any factor that affects the rate of respiration will affect the rage of active transport
~Needs energy which is released in respiration
~Glucose concentration
~Oxygen
~Temperature
~Toxic substances (cyanide stops respiration)
What is active transport?
When the concentration of a material is lower outside the cell
