Active Transport Flashcards
Electrogenic pumps:
Electrochemical gradient
Creates and electrochemical gradient, which is a difference in charge on the two sides of the membrane
Electrogenic pumps
Active transport
Transport proteins that generate voltage across a membrane
Electrogenic pumps:
Membrane potential
Has potential to do
Creates Voltage, which is separation of charge
Sodium / potassium pumps
Active transport
When the Na+ don’t match the K+ ion on either side.
*set up the ability to transmit electricity in heart / nerves.
Proton pump
Active transport
Pumps H+ ion (proton)
Cotransport pump
Active transport
Works with another single pump which has actively transported a substance across the membrane and created a gradient.
One pump is passive and provides energy to power the active one
