Active Transport Flashcards
1
Q
What is Active Transport?
A
- The movement of molecules across a cell membrane, from an area of lower concentration to and area of higher concentration, and requiring energy from cellular respiration.
2
Q
What does the term Active Process mean?
A
- Requires energy from the cell
3
Q
Where does the energy for active transport come from?
A
- Cellular respiration: (responsible for all energy that the cell uses)
- A process which happens in the mitochondria where the glucose breaks down to release energy.
4
Q
Which plant cell does Active Transport usually occur in?
A
- Root hair cells
- Mineral ions which the plant needs at are a higher concentration inside the cell than they are outside in the soil.
- This means that energy is required to absorb them by active transport, against their concentration gradient.
