Active Transport Flashcards
1
Q
What is Active Transport
A
Active Transport is the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane through the use of celular energy (ATP). The movement of these ions or molecules occurs against the concentration gradient.
2
Q
Differences between A.T and Diffusion
A
- Active Transport uses energy in the form of ATP to transport ions or molecules while diffusion uses the kinetic energy of the molecules as they move freely.
-Active Transport occurs against the concentration gradient while diffusion occurs down the concentration gradient.
3
Q
Examples of Active Transport
A
- the movement of calcium ions out of cardiac muscle,
-the uptake of glucose into the intestines
