are for petty wits, divinity is the basest of the three”…“Tis magic, magic, that hath ravish’d me.”
Faustus: “metaphysics

Faustus: “When all is done,
divinity is best.”
Faustus: first rejection of religion
“Divinity, adieu!”
Faustus: “belike, we must sin,
and so consequently die”
Faustus: “Ay,
we must die an everlasting death.”
Faustus: “I’ll have them fly
to India for gold”
Faustus: “tell the secrets

Good Angel: “lay that
damned book aside”

on Earth as Jove is in the sky”
Valdes: “shall make all
nations to canonize us”

What happens in this scene?
Faustus gives a long soliloquy, reflecting upon his academic knowledge and considering what to specialise in. He considers logic, medicine, law and religion, before deciding upon magic as it will allow him to become a “deity”. Good Angel vs. Bad Angel argument but he remains resolute.
