Q

Ferd: ‘No precious creature…I’d rather crack my sinews, break my back’

A

AO1/2: doting, caring relationship depicted as F worries for M’s honour , abiding by jacobean terms of courtly love as he recognises that he must earn the right to Miranda’s hand in marriage lest they both undergo social disrepute.
‘crack my sinews…break my back’ - arduous, labourious work which tests the limit of his physicality - he would rather inflict pain upon himself than have M face social criticism

  • Although = ‘precious creature’ assigns a ‘value’ to Miranda which perhaps demonstrates that F like all other men only sees M for her sexual/physical worth.
    AO5: ‘very purity of love’
