It presents him as duplicitous - either a caring father or manipulative - wants to teach Laertes a lesson about reputation.

He is originally concerned about Laertes honour and reputation but obeys Polonious’ orders as he gets paid.
What can be inferred about Polonious in ‘what was I about to say?’ ?
He over speaks/ is verbose - presented him as a pompous idiot.

Hamlet uses Ophelia as a way to make it seem like he is mad, he does not care for the scandal/dishonour it might cause her.

Polonious uses Ophelia’s distress to gain favour with the king. P as a sycophant, only has self interest.
