Trunk carried up by gilbert and another man
Black man trying to flirt with Hortense
Sorry for not meeting hortense at docks
Gilbert protecting Hortense
Hortense checking Gilbert out when he puts money in the metre
Both awkward around each other - don’t know how to act
Gilbert tries to sleep in same bed but Hortense said he sleeps in floor - comedic
Arguing about how there is not much in the room
Queenie trying to get rid of a woman that is racist
Trying to tell her that black people can’t stay in Queenie’s house
Blaming neighbours leaving on black people moving
Racist neighbour was telling the story of how her sister had to ‘step off the pavement’
Queenie standing up for black people especially Hortense - said neighbours sister was fat - comedic
Go shops
Hortense and Queenie going shops
Hortense uncomfortable being around
Queenie - wants to go shops on her own
Queenie wants the female company
Train station
Gilbert being yelled at by a racist white guy
Gilbert gets beat up by a few white guys
Gilbert stands up for blacks
Gilbert goes home
Yells at hortense
She gives as good as she gets
Hortense cries
Miss jewel comfort hortense by walking across backstage
Gilbert come back and bring food
Hortense tell gilbert about being called a darky and gilbert wishes to protect her
Bernard comes home
Ensemble walk across stage to change scene
Lights go dark
Queenie rightfully angry
Makes up bed in arthurs room
Hortense looking for job
Bash into women
Trying to keep herself together
Gilbert tries to cheer up Hortense by saying hes walked into many and said she should have said it was an interesting cupboard
Gilbert makes hortense laugh
Gilbert and hortense go back home
Bernard tries to get them to get out
Queenie, gilbert wont let him
Queenie giving birth
Bernard wants to hit gilbert
After queenie gives birth
Michael come on stage and talks about a hummingbird
Implying he is the father
Calm ocean projection in the background
Calm before the storm of having children
Baby crying
Bernard comes and soothes the baby
Tells queenie about how he took so long to get back to queenie
Queenie giving her baby michael away
Crying
Hoping to not send him to an orphanage
Gilbert tries to comfort queenie but bernard shouts at him to not
Gilbert confronts bernards opinion then slowly and carefully puts the baby into the cot
Hortense and gilbert go to their room
Gilbert wishes to leave the baby with queenie
Hortense thinking of adopting - can relate —> given away as a child
Hortense states she is proud of Gilbert
Hortense kisses him and implies she wants to sleep with him
Baby michael given up for adoption
Whole ensemble come and walk on stage and remove staging - children ran onstage
Baby given away to hortense and gilbert
