‘I would, while it was smiling in my face, pluck’d my nipple from his boneless gums,
and dash’d its brains out, had I sworn’
What does this quote tell us?
Analyse:
This quote shows how Lady Macbeth plays with Macbeths emotional and paternal instincts in order to manipulate him
. In this quote we see Lady M’s and Macbeths theoretical baby feeding and then being killed - this links back to when Lady Macbeth told the spirits to replace her milk with poison
.’Boneless’ shows how young the baby is
- This goes against Jacobean gender roles as women were supposed to be kind and nurturing
-Shows Lady M is so corrupted that she is even rejecting her maternal instincts
.Lady M telling Macbeth she would kill their baby for him, again breaks Jacobean gender roles; as men would be publicly shamed if they harmed their family
-This shows that both Lady M and Macbeth have started to deviate from these stereotypes
