-‘I charge thee wait upon me whilst I live’
-‘I am servent to great Lucifer/ and may not follow thee without his leave’
Quote showing Meph’s duplicitous nature
-‘abjure the scriptures…we fly in hope to get his glorious soul’

How does Marlowe use costume to link the Catholic Church to the devil
F has meph change his costume to that of an ‘Old Franciscan Friar’ and that costume ‘becomes a devils best’
Who presents the pope with a ‘dainty dish’ from Mila and Florence

Why is the ‘dainty dish’ repeated?
-suggests an overbearing attempt to please and almost worship the pope, emphasising their corruption in terms of hubristic behaviours reflected by F himself
Why were the cardinals then punished in this scene?
-Punishment at the hands of devilish beings was believed to be the consequence of sinful and immoral behaviour
What significance does ‘snatching of the dishes’ serve?
-this serves as a stark reminder that the Catholics are corrupt and deserved t be ridiculed, mocked and punished for their crimes
