Act 1 Scene 2 Flashcards

1
Q

But I love the gentle Desdemona
Othello

A

-Othello is giving a more tender, emotional description of his relationship.
-This contrasts with Iagos sexual and vulgar description of it.
-It’s spoken in iambic pentameter showing he is intending to be an individual with nobility and intelligence.

Q

My parts my title, and my perfect soul shall manifest me rightly
Othello

A

-His triadic assertion shows all the things he values about himself (physical body, his rank and his Christian soul).
-However because his skin is black, others question these things.
-They think he shouldn’t of been given the title and his conversion to Christianity doesn’t mean he has a Christian soul.

Q

Damn’d as thou art, thou hast enchanted her
Brabantio

A

-Due to the colour of Othellos skin, he assumes Othello is a demonic character and who practices ‘black’ magic.
-It links to Othellos monologue in act 1 scene 3 and to the fact that Iago could possibly be the devil in act 5 scene 2.
