The audience establishes a first impression of Macbeth as noble and moral- when they are deceived by him later, it makes his downfall even more horrific and shocking as they developed a heroic impression of him- theme of deception.

Macebeth ‘unseam’d’ Macdonwald from the ‘nave to th’ chaps’

A

Macbeth ruthlessly ripped and tore Macdonwald apart- the audience recognises his ability to be violent whereas the characters congratulate him for his brutality.
Hints at his later violent acts when he murders Duncan

All create connotations of violence and savagery- shows the danger of the battlefield, makes the audience feel anxious and uncomfortable.
‘Golgotha’ reflects the cruelty of Christ’s crucifixion- the battlefield is as bloody as his execution, theme of violence

A

Idea of winning and losing- repeated throughout the play
In the beginning, Macbeth wins due to the force of good, in the end he loses due to the overpowering of his evil- symbolises significance of good vs evil
