Number in Upper Left… Confirm on FAA website.
What documents do you need on you to act as Commercial Pilot ?
Pilot Cert, Medical and photo ID (License, Passport, Military ID)
Why a second class medical ?
More stringent requirements and more frequent testing (annual.. doe not change with your age)
What happens if your second class medical expires ?
Reverts to 3rd medical.
Will you ever as a commercial pilot require a 1st class medical ?
No, that is ATP.
What additional privileges do you have as a commercial pilot ?
You can fly people or property for compensation.
What are the limitations of a commercial pilot rating ?
You can’t operate “public carriage” by holding yourself out via advertising or word of mouth.
What are some examples of “Holding Out”
Advertising via web, flyers, word of mouth.
Can you build a reputation for willingness to fly people/property ?
No, that is considered holding out.
How many contracts can you have for private carriage ?
Private carriage for hire is carriage for one or several selected customers. AC 120-12A specifies 18-24 contracts has been held to be common carriage.
How can we fly “common carriage” as a Commerical pilot ?
You have to work for an operator.. i.e. part 91 or 135.
If not instrument rated, what are limitations of Commercial Rating?
No more than 50 miles. No night flights.
Tell me about BasicMed ?
1) passed at least 1 exam via DME
2) only good for 3rd class medical
3) once approved via application, your family Dr. follows checklist.
During Preflight, what are you checking to ensure the aircraft is legal and safe to fly ?
Airworthiness cert.. visible to passengers entering only from right, Registration (on aircraft), POH with weight and balance within reach, and Radio Operator Cert if crossing boarders.
