Acronyms Flashcards
CIFS
Common Internet File System, a windows specific implementation of SMB (Server Message Block) protocol
SMB
Server Message Block, It’s a file sharing protocol that was invented by IBM and has been around since the mid-eighties
NFS
Network File System, The NFS protocol was developed by Sun Microsystems and serves essentially the same purpose as SMB (i.e., to access files systems over a network as if they were local), but is entirely incompatible with CIFS/SMB. This means that NFS clients can’t speak directly to SMB servers.
LDAP
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol is the protocol that Exchange Server uses to communicate with Active Directory
LDAPS
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol Secure (SSL/TLS)
SCP
Secure Copy Protocol for securely transferring computer files between a local host and a remote host or between two remote hosts
IGP
interior gateway protocol (IGP) is a type of protocol used for exchanging routing information between gateways (commonly routers) within an autonomous system (for example, a system of corporate local area networks). This routing information can then be used to route network-layer protocols like IP.
CCMP
Counter Mode with Cipher Block Chaining Message Authentication Code Protocol (CCMP) is an encryption protocol that forms part of the 802.11i standard for wireless local area networks (WLANs), particularly those using WiMax technology
RSTP
Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) is a network protocol that ensures a loop-free topology for Ethernet networks
ICMP
Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is a supporting protocol in the Internet protocol suite. It is used by network devices, including routers, to send error messages and operational information indicating, for example, that a requested service is not available or that a host or router could not be reached
SNMP
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet Standard protocol for collecting and organizing information about managed devices on IP networks and for modifying that information to change device behavior
CSMA
Carrier-sense multiple access. Node verifies the absence of other traffic before transmitting on a shared transmission medium
CDMA
Code-Division Multiple Access (2g/3g). A form of multiplexing, allows numerous signals to occupy a single transmission channel.
CWDM
Coarse wavelength division multiplexing. Combines multiple signals at various wavelengths for simultaneous transmission over fiber
CSMA/CD
Carrier Sense Multiple Access / Collision Detection
