The lowest altitude at which a navigational fix can be crossed when entering or continuing along an airway that will allow an aircraft to clear all obstacles and identify the intersection while carrying out a normal climb to the required minimum in route, IFR, altitude of the airway in question beyond the fix.

MOCA - Minimum Obstruction Clearance Altitude

Minimum altitude for a route segment while providing for obstacle clearance

Guarantees:
•1000 FT Separation when the obstacle elevation is below 3000 FT

•1500 FT separation when the obstacle elevation is between 3000 FT and 5000 FT

•2000 FT separation when the obstacle elevation is greater than 5000 FT

• This may place in aircraft below reception altitude or navigational aid altitude

• assures 22 nautical miles VOR reception range
