What is the rule of 20?
you can open the bidding when your high-card point-count added to the number of cards in your two longest suits gets to 20
Open 1 of a suit
10-19 Rule of Twenty. Then bid: a) The longest suit b) The higher ranking of any two equal length suits. Exception: with 4 Hearts and 4 Spades open 1 Heart. c) With 4441 distribution: With a red suit singleton open the suit below singleton. With a black suit singleton open the middle of the 3 touching suits.
How do you count Playing Trick Points?
playing tricks are defined as the number of tricks expected, with no help from partner, given that the longest suit is trumps. Thus for long suits the ace, king and queen are counted together with all cards in excess of 3 in the suit; for short suits only clear winner combinations are counted: A = 1, AK = 2, AKQ = 3 KQ = 1, KQJ = 2
Open 2D, 2H or 2S
16-22 points Should have 8 playing tricks and a good 6+ card suit or two good suits (at least 5-4). The suit(s) should contain at least two honours.
Open 2C
