Acids And Bases Flashcards
What does an acid + base go to?
Salt + water
What does an acid + alkali go to?
Salt + water
What does an acid + metal carbonate go to?
Salt + water + carbon dioxide
What does an acid + metal go to?
Salt + hydrogen
What does an acid + ammonia go to?
Ammonium salt
What is a salt?
When the H+ ions in the acid are replaced by metal ion or ammonium ion
Practical- reaction of dilute acids with carbonates: what equipment do you need?
6 test tubes
Dilute HCL
Dilute sulphuric acid
Metal carbonates: CaCO3, MgCO3, CuCO3, Na2CO3
Spatial
Test tube with 3cm3 lime water
Pipette.
Practical- reaction of dilute acids with carbonates: what is the method?
Take 3cm3 limewater into test tube
Add 2cm3 of HCL to a separate test tube
Add a spatula of copper carbonate to acid and quickly collect gas in a pipette
Squeeze gas into lime water
Repeat 5 more times with different acids and carbonate
Practical- acid strength: what equipment do you need?
Spotting tile, 0.1mold,-3 ethnic acid
0.1 HCL
pH sticks and chart
UI solution and chart
Practical- acid strength: what is the method?
Put 2 drops of ethnic acid into one of the dimples in spotting tile
Dip pH strip into solution and estimate pH using the chart
Add one drop of UI solution to a beaker.
Use chart to estimate pH
Repeat with HCL
