Acids And Alkalis Flashcards
Name 3 everyday acids
Cola, squash, lemon juice, vinegar, shampoo, dry milk
In litmus paper, acid is what colour?
Red
Test for Gases produced by combustion
I will guide you through the puzzle. The gases get sucked into the funnel (by, I’ll tell you laters) into a tube, and into a U-tube, sitting in a beaker of iced water with Anyhdrous Copper II sulpate. The ice will condense the water vapour and the water will turn the Anhydrous Copper II Sulpate hydrous. Going along, it then leads to a test tube of limewater. The carbon dioxide will make it go cloudy. At the end is the pump sucking the gases.
In litmus paper, what colour is alkali?
Blue
What makes limewater cloudy
CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)
Test for air containing 20% oxygen
Light a candle, put it in a trough of water, and put a jam jar on it. The candle will soon go out and the water level will rise into the jam jar by 20%
Carbon (C) + Oxygen (02)
Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
Magnesium (2 atoms of Mg) + Oxygen (02)
Magnesium Oxide (2 atoms of MgO)
Iron (4 atoms of Fe) + Oxygen (3 atoms of O2)
Iron Oxide (2 atoms of Fe2O3)
Name 3 everyday alkalis
Citrus cleaner, bicarbonate soda, washing powder, bath salt, cream
