Alkalis
Ph greater than 7, alkaline solutions in water
Neutral
Value of 7, not acidic or alkiline
Strong acid
A substance that forms aqueous solutions with a ph less than 7 where all the acid particles dissociate:
Hydrochloric acid
Sulphuric acid
Weak acid
Don’t fully ionise:
Ethanoic acid
Citric acid
Carbonic acid

How much an acid dissociates

Stronger acid means lower ph number
0-6 = acid, 7 = neutral, 8-14 = alkali
Neutralisation
Acid + alkali hydroxide —> salt and water
Acid + metal oxide —> salt and water
Acid + metal carbonate —> salt and water and carbon dioxide
Salts
Metal then acid:
Hydrochloric acid —> chloride
Sulfuric acid —> sulfate
Nitric acid —> nitrate
