Acid Rain Flashcards
What ph does water have
Ph 5.6 a 5.9
What do the gasses do in water
They dissolve to form acids
What happens if there are more acidic gasses
Ph can decrease further
What has happened to our rainwater recently
Became even more acidic ph between 3 and 5.5 due to air pollution from burning fossil fuels this is called acid rain
What are the main sources of this pollution
Power stations an card both burn large amounts of fossil fuels and release more co2 Sulphur and nitrogen oxides
What are problems caused by acid rain
Plants and aquatic are harmed, the damage to plants can affect animals on the food chain
Pollution has be reduced by?
Reducing the sulphur in diesel and petrol, fitting catalytic converters in care, fitting sulphur precipitators
What gasses does the air naturally contain
Carbon dioxide,sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides
