acid bases titration & standard solution Flashcards

1
Q

what are titration?

A
  • they are a form of volumetric analysis?
  • known volume and concentration of s solution is reacted with a measured volume of a solution
  • can be used to find unknowns

Q

what are the steps of titration?

A

1) using a pipette ->add measured volume to a conical flask
2) add suitable indicator
3) fill the burette with another solution y
4) open valve on burette to allow a small quantity of y into x
5) repeat until end point is reached
6) measure the volume of y that has been added

Q

what are the steps for standard solution?

A

1)carefully weigh out required mass of solute
2)dissolve the solute in chosen solvent in a beaker
3)transfer your solution to a volumetric flask
rinse the beaker with the initial solvent
add the washing to the volumetric flask
4)add some of your solvent to the volumetric flask
make sure not to fill up to the graduation line
5)add solvent drop by drop until the bottom of the
minusics is sitting on the line
do not allow solution to fill above the line
6)mix solution thoroughly, invert it
