Acid - base titrations Flashcards
What is a titration?
-Hints - Volume
-technique used to ,measure the volume of one solution that reacts exactly with another solution.
What titrations be used for?
-finding the conc of a solution
Identifying unknown chemicals
What is a standard solution?
-solution of a known concentration.
Step One of Acid Base titration
Add a measured volume of one solution to a conical flask using pipette.
Step Two of Acid Base titration
Add the other solution to a burette, and record the initial burrete reading.
Step three
Add a few drops of an indicator to the solution in the conical flask.
Step four
Run the solution in the burette into the solution in the conical flask swirling the conical flask throughout to mix the two solutions till the indicator in the conical flask changes colour at the end point.
Step Five
Record the final burette reading.
What is a titre?
The volume of the solution added from the burette.
Initial reading - Final reading.
Step six - Trail titration
Carry out a trial titration to find the approximate titre.
Step seven- last one
Repeat titration more accurately by adding the solution dropwise as the end point is approached
-Repeat more titrations untill concordant results are obtained.
