What is an amphiprotic species?
An amphiprotic species is able to act as both a Bronsted-Lowry acid and a Bronsted-Lowry base depending on what it is reacting with.
What is an amphoteric species?
The term amphiprotic refers to Bronsted-Lowry theory only. The term amphoteric also refers to substances that can act as either acids or bases, but its use is not limited to Bronsted-Lowry theory.
What are all amphiprotic?
All amphiprotic species are amphoteric but not all amphoteric species are amphiprotic.
What is a monoprotic acid?
Donates 1 H^+
What is a diprotic acid?
Donates 2 H^+
What is the Kc for dissociation of weak acid?
Kc for this dissociation is very small + so equilibrium lies far to the left. This is known as acid dissociation constant or Ka.
How do you calculate the pH of weak acid?
[A^-]=[H^+] and therefore [H^+]^2

What is a buffer?
Buffer = a solution that resists change in pH when small amounts of acid/alkali are added.

Acidic buffer pH < 7
Basic buffer pH > 7
