Acetylcholine And Cholinergic Receptors Flashcards
What are nicotinic receptors?
-ligand-gated ion channel receptor
What are the receptors responsive to acetylcholine?
Cholinergic receptors
- nicotinic
- muscarinic
What are muscarinic receptors?
G-protein-coupled receptor
Where are ligand-gates ions channel located?
-cholinergic neuromuscular junction of the somatic motor system and at the autonomic ganglia
Where are G-protein-coupled receptors muscarinic receptor located?
-at the target organs of the parasympathetic nervous system
Consequence of the neurotransmitter binding to G-coupled protein receptor
- stimulatory (Gq & Gs)
- inhibitory (Gi)
Five subtypes of muscarinic receptor
M1 M2 M3 M4 M5
M1 receptors
- associated with excitatory G-protein (Gq)
- generally found on neurons in the CNS but also in peripheral ganglia
- they control gastric secretion
M2 receptors
- inhibitory (Gi)
- located in the heart
M3 receptors
-linked to an excitatory G-protein (Gq)
- located predominantly at the autonomic target organs
- mainly secretory glands and sooth muscle
M4 receptors
- inhibitory (Gi)
- more restricted to the CNS and are less well characterized.
- also located on salivary glands and the parasympathetic innervation of the eye.
M5 receptors
- excitatory (Gq)
- more restricted to the CNS and are less well characterized.
- also located on salivary glands and the parasympathetic innervation of the eye.
