- Ensures positive patient journey
- Using the ‘same language’ (oral, written, use of abbreviations) throughout the whole medical field, having the same understanding of medical terms in order to avoid to communication errors.
- Prevents patient being administered the wrong prescriptions

- It could make a patients situation worse or life threatening
