- For words ending in a vowel, n or s, spoken stress on the second to last syllable e.g. examen, joven
- For all words that end in all other consonants (not n or s), the stress falls on the last syllable e.g. comer, ciudad

- Use on words that break spoken stress rules, La canción, también
- To differentiate between homonyms (De/
Dé) - Used on question words (¿Quién?)

What is the only letter you can place diaeresis on, and when to use it?

- ‘u’
- When ‘u’ usually would be silent as it is in between syllables (gui, gue) but needs to be pronounced
- E.g. Arquero (archer) you skip the U
But Agüero, needs the ‘u’ to be pronounced
