Through the use of the repetition of “sole” we see that Marley is the only person whom Scrooge trusts to run a business with and we see that Scrooge and Marley have a bond that was forged through the development of their business.

A

Although Marley has just died, Scrooge still continues without his friend to make profit. And so we get a sense of ignorance and a lack of sympathy and Scrooge is unable to do tasks that distract him from his ultimate goal of making money.

A

Even after the death of Marley, Scrooge has not changed the name of his business, and so we see that Scrooge embodies the same business like qualities that Marley has which makes Scrooge able to relate towards Marley and thus shows there bond has been forged through the business they run together.

Here Scrooges fire is symbolic of the fact that Scrooge is trading comfort for wealth. The fact that his clerks fire is smaller and is locked in his “own room” shows the extent of his greed and selfishness, and a lack of sympathy of others in the cold and harsh conditions of winter.
