What is the purpose of the Academy?
To prepare recruits for firefighting and EMS in Clark County. This is accomplished by classroom instruction, demonstration, physical fitness program, and practical (hands-on) application of subjects pertaining to the fields of firefighting and EMS.
What does the Cadre consist of?
Chief Officers, Captains, Engineers, Firefighters, and Fire Instructors
What is a Benchmark?
A benchmark is a point of reference that measures the quality, value, or competence of a Recruit’s proficiency in a skill against a standard. CCFD benchmarks will be utilized in the Academy to determine proficiency in firefighting and EMS.
What is a DR given for?
Violations of Academy rules/standards/expectations, deficiencies occurring during inspections, and/or as designated by the Cadre.
What must DR include?
Identifies the reason for the DR and the action the Recruit will take to correct/improve/prevent a reoccurrence.
What are the requirements of a DR?
All DR’s must be handwritten with at least 100 words, unless otherwise specified by the Cadre.
How many points does a DR count for?
All DR’s will count for 2.5 points in the Point System.
Points accumulated in the Academy will affect what?
Points accumulated in the Academy will cause a reduction to your final grade.
How many points equal a GIG slip?
10 accumulated points will equal a GIG slip.
A GIG slip will cause how much a reduction to your final grade?
A GIG slip will cause a 0.25% reduction to your final grade.
DNP reports should be written to the same standards as what?
A DNP research assignment should be written to the same parameters as a DR.
How many points does a DNP count as toward the Point System?
All DNPs will count as 2.5 points towards the Point System
What is Discipline?
Discipline is the positive motivation toward the achievement of goals.
What does Discipline encourage?
Discipline encourages teamwork, self-respect, self-confidence, maturity, and courtesy through the development of good work ethics.
What does “Esprit de Corps”
A term projecting the idea of the establishment of pride and loyalty in self, profession, and the department.
