Network:
talk to dep. visitors, schmooze at conferences, send your ppl to some ppl your reference,.. etc.

Work broadly:
Talk to others outside your area, publish at multiple areas, BUT you need to have true depth in one area, it is danger to appear scattershot. This might fall you between the cracks and not pass the bar in any of your specialities.

Write a papers on everything of substance you do, BUT be aware of quality and quantity of published materials.

Give a talk to other Universities and ask to meet people
