What are the Police responsible for? (what is their role)
A
They are responsible for enforcing laws which are made by Parliament = PACE = police have stop, search, arrest, and detain powers.
- The police are the first agency to become involved once a person is suspected of committing a crime.

What is the Police relationship with the CPS?
A
- send files to the cps to decide whether to charge and prosecute
- police ask them for advice on charging suspects
- they will provide the cps with all evidence they require to build their case
- the cps offer the police cps direct (24hr advice line)

What is the Police relationship with the Prison service?
A
- assist with arrangements to ensure that those sentenced to custody are taken there
- police will arrest a prisoner if recalled on licence

What is the Police relationship with the Courts?
A
- ensure the defendants in police custody are brought before court
- police attend court to give evidence as a prosecution witness
- police provide protection for vulnerable witnesses
- police apply to court for search and arrest warrants
- police can apply to a magistrate for approval to detain a suspect for a further 96hrs

A
The police work with probation, prison, and social services sharing other information with other agencies to assess and manage violent and sexual offenders in order to protect the public from harm.
