Q

Did drink driving attitudes shift after 1925’s law

A

No

It was still normalized within society and due to the lack of frequency of cars and therefore deaths - it didn’t violent societal mores (preserving life)

Also there was an ambiguity to the law as no one clearly outlined what defined ‘drunk’ or blood alcohol level

A

Anti drink driving campaigns from THINK!

The campaign/adverts targeted likely drink driving offenders (young men) and aimed of altering their personal values/moral codes

By 2014 after heavy campaign 91% of people agreed that drink driving was unacceptable - conflicting with the 1979 stats where 50% of male drivers admitted to drink driving

This showed the campaigns positive effects
