Making sure that the offender is adequately punished.

To make sure that the offender doesn’t offend again, as the punishment is unpleasant.

The idea that people will not commit crime if they are faced with a harsher sentence for reoffending.
What is general deterrence?
The idea that people will not commit crime if they are faced with punishment.
How does marxist theory link in with deterrence?
Crime is inevitable, as we are living in a capitalistic society.
What is denunciation?
A way of society enforcing norms and rules.
What kind of approach is denunciation?
It’s a functionalist approach.
What is an issue with denunciation?
It could lead to a self fulfilling prophecy.
