Describe Hirschi’s Control theory
Argues that people conform when they have strong bonds to society
Attachment: To avoid crime, a person needs to be positively attached to their parents, school, peers etc.
Commitment: If a person has ambition to achieve positive future goals such as a good job, home etc. they are less likely to commit crime
Involvement: Those who are involved in social activities such as partaking in a sports team are less prone to commit crime
Belief: A belief in society’s values such as honesty is needed and belief that committing crime is wrong
